What general purpose means
A general purpose container is a standard enclosed dry container, usually with double doors at one end. It provides a durable storage shell. It is not temperature-controlled, and weatherproof condition depends on the unit you choose.
Choose by what goes inside
Start with your largest item and the door opening, then allow room for shelves and access. The 20ft size is a useful comparison point. A 10ft may suit less space; a 40ft may suit a larger load where access permits.
Check condition and moisture
New single-trip containers have made a shipping journey and can have handling marks. Cargo-worthy used containers have worked at sea and can have dents, repairs and surface rust. Ask about the actual unit, its doors, floor and weatherproof condition. As-is containers are not sold watertight.
A watertight container can still develop condensation. Store dry items, allow airflow and discuss ventilation or moisture control for the contents and location.
Get the whole picture
Ask for the container, its condition, delivery charge and GST treatment in writing. Size, condition, availability, distance and the delivery vehicle affect the total. Let us know your suburb and preferred timing so the quote reflects your job.
The container footprint is only part of the picture. The truck needs a suitable approach, room to turn and room to unload. Send photos of the road, gate, driveway and placement area. Flag slopes, soft ground, branches and overhead services so the transport team can assess the job.
